Meet Our Team

Ottis Moore

In 1979, my wife and I moved to a very rural Cherokee County. The nearest animal hospital was many miles away and homeless, neglected animals were everywhere. The County’s animal shelter, a wooden shed, was not fit for storing tools. We were at a loss, when in front of an old grocery store, we met two elderly ladies having a bake sale, soliciting membership in CCHS, and fund raising for a new animal shelter.

A dream of better pet care in Cherokee County was born.

Sherry Thomas: Adoption Coordinator

“I have been involved in rescue for over 20 years. I have always loved caring for pets. As a teenager in high school, I would play hooky from school just to go volunteer at the local animal shelter.

I have been organizing adoptions for the Cherokee Humane Society and each year my team adopts out 300 to 500 dogs. Without our volunteers I could not run adoptions, and without foster families I could not save lives. I pull from about 10 different animal control shelters in GA; some have a kill rate as high as 98 percent! These dogs come to me in need of love and medical care, both of which I give.

I have a wonderful husband who supports my rescue obsession. I also have three adult children and five grandchildren that help me out when they can. Without them I could not do this rescue work.” I also have five personal dogs of my own that I kept after not being able to place them.

Dr. Howard Ashley

Dr. Ashley is our main rescue vet. “I was raised in the south, and I did my veterinary training at Auburn University. I pride myself on being very down to earth and straight forward. An yes! I even drive a pick up truck - a red one! All Animal Care is in the northwest Georgia farming communities, so our Doctors see a wide variety of animals and pet challenges in day to day work.”
